Let me take you with me behind the scenes of the whole creation process for a custom order - from the initial concept to the final result.
This was the original client’s message:
“I was hoping to do a corset based on stained glass, magpies and other corvids, or a cathedral type of design (whichever you think is best or excites you!). I also love pearls, dangly bits, and gold hardware ☺️.”
Based on this wonderful concept I suggested the use of a particular white embroidered tulle (with cathedrals!) and the client referenced the model she thought would fit the fabric the best: an underbust corset with removable straps.
The feathers of the magpies are black, white, green and blue so we opted for a combination of those for her piece: a peacock blue cotton as a base for the cathedral, a dark green baroque fabric for the sides and a satin in the same color for the back and straps. This color blocking effect mimics the different sections present on stained glass.
As decorative elements we added:
- a vintage style ribbon on the side seams
- a satin bias tape on the top edge with blue botanical motifs
- a top and bottom ruffles in white and pearl
Additionally, the piece incorporates a string of dangly tear-drop shaped pearls on the top and a gold vintage-style charm on the center!
As a finishing touch, and to bring everything together, the straps are enclosed by a peacock blue satin bias tape and tied with a 1.6cm wide off-white ribbon.
